“The US Secretary of Defense and I had a conversation with the NATO Secretary General to discuss the Russian attack on Ukraine and discuss a coordinated response by the North Atlantic Alliance,” Blinken wrote on his Twitter.

According to the US Secretary of State, NATO countries are "united in their response to Russia" and strengthening the eastern flank of the alliance.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his address to the citizens of Russia, said that he had decided to conduct a special military operation to protect Donbass.

As he explained, this decision was made due to the fact that earlier the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik turned to Russia with a request to assist in repelling aggression from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to AFP, representatives of NATO countries will hold an emergency meeting on February 24 against the backdrop of Russia's decision on a military operation in the Donbass.
