Biden sanctions: "Putin will be a pariah"
Putin invasion launches blitzkrieg in Ukraine
The
Puebla Group (GP),
which brings together leftist and populist leaders from
Latin America,
has shown in a statement its "deep concern about the recent course of events in
Ukraine."
A kind of Solomonic declaration in which he "cordially" asks
Russia, the US
and the
European Union
to abandon "the path of military intervention" and also the "unilateral economic sanctions" against
Moscow.
As if it were any conflict, the GP makes a call to "avoid war in Ukraine" and invites the protagonists to
"transfer this dispute over the military geostrategic balance between Europe and Asia
to institutional multilateral scenarios."
The GP is made up of
53 leaders from 16 countries,
including Minister
Irene Montero,
Socialist deputy
Adriana Lastra
and former Spanish head of government
José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero,
one of the main insiders of the three
Latin American dictatorships.
The GP uses concepts similar to those that have been exhibited in recent hours in
Caracas,
where both
Nicolás Maduro
and his vice president,
Delcy Rodríguez,
have withdrawn their unrestricted support for
Vladimir Putin,
"the great leader of humanity."
"Venezuela
rejects the aggravation of the crisis in Ukraine as a result of the violation of the
Minsk
agreements by
NATO,"
said Chavez's son, who had previously insisted that "they have focused on a
brutal war against Russia and against Putin ,
those actions of disrespect come from imperialism".
For now, neither Caracas nor
Managua,
which once recognized
Abkhazia
and
South Ossetia,
have done the same with
Donetsk
and
Lugansk.
Precisely in the Nicaraguan capital, a high-level delegation from Russia, led by the
president of the State Duma, Viacheslav Volodin, has arrived in the last few hours.
The Russian leaders in turn came from
Havana,
where they were received with revolutionary pomp by the Castro authorities.
"Cuba
and Russia: two peoples closer to each other that defend peace," the
Granma newspaper,
the official bulletin of the
Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), headlined on its front page.
"For now, caution prevails in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Solidarity rhetoric with Putin but without diplomatic measures.
Diaz-Canel, Maduro and Ortega
are betting that their speech in support of Putin has no costs and benefits with Russia. But in the
US
they are monitoring it. The state channel in Venezuela adopts the narrative that the invasion is to denazify Ukraine," summarized the internationalist
Mariano de Alba.
Faced with the complicity of his allies, the leader of the continental progressive left, the Chilean
Gabriel Boric,
was forceful: "Russia has opted for war to resolve conflicts.
From Chile we condemn the invasion of Ukraine,
the violation of its sovereignty and the illegitimate use of force. Our solidarity will be with the victims and our humble efforts with peace."
Chavismo, which defines as "cowardly" the left that has broken ranks to separate itself from the three dictatorships and the repeated violation of human rights, took advantage of the situation to
disqualify with the same words those who have opposed the Russian invasion since the region.
