  • Live Breaking news on the conflict in Ukraine

The main political parties with parliamentary representation have shown their condemnation of the outbreak of war in Ukraine after the first attacks by Russia.

Both the PSOE and the PP, Vox, United We Can or Citizens have reiterated their rejection, demanded the end of the conflict and opted for diplomatic channels as a path to understanding at this time.

The leader of the opposition, Pablo Casado, has shown his support for the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who has canceled the Conference of Autonomous Presidents scheduled for this Friday on the island of La Palma, and has urgently summoned the National Security Council .

The situation in Ukraine "requires a forceful, coordinated and intelligent response", said the leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas.

"The voice of Spain must be decisive."

However, there are differences between the statements issued by the political formations.

While the ministers of United We Can Ione Belarra and Yolanda Díaz have shown their "resounding rejection" and have agreed that "the only possible way is diplomacy and respect for international legality", from a sector of the

coalition they have criticized again the role of NATO.

Thus, Izquierda Unida has released a statement calling for the end of NATO: "A new war on the European continent shows us that NATO is a destabilizing factor, and therefore its dissolution is more urgent than ever and a commitment to its own and autonomous security policy".

The Minister of Consumption and leader of IU, Alberto Garzón, has shared this message on his social networks.

"Immediate cessation" of the threats

Podemos has also drafted a statement, which has practically gone unnoticed, calling for "the immediate cessation of threats and hostilities by the Russian Federation, the mutually agreed withdrawal of all troops and the total demilitarization of the area, and NATO's effort to expand to the east".

On the part of Vox, it has been asked to end the attack in Ukraine with the same "forcefulness" with which the Russian maneuvers on the Ukrainian border were condemned days ago and it has "demanded" that "the conflict be stopped and the path diplomat".

However, the party has emphasized the role played by the European Union: "In this sense, we must not fail to point out the failure and irresponsibility of the European Commission. Spain must demand that Russia stop the attacks and endorse the solution of the conflict. And, in any case, avoid a military escalation, which some seem to want to cover up their internal disaster".
