The suicide of Mayor Hervé Neau, on February 11, in the premises of the town hall, upset the entire municipality of Rezé and its elected officials in particular.

But, beyond the emotion, the city of 40,000 inhabitants could not remain longer without a leader.

An extraordinary municipal council therefore met on Thursday evening to elect a new mayor.

And, unsurprisingly, it was Agnès Bourgeais, 48, former first assistant, who was by the Rezéenne assembly.

This left-wing woman, experienced in union and association commitments, had been designated by the political movement Rezé citoyenne.

Senior education adviser by profession, Agnès Bourgeais had left Ile-de-France in 2011 to join her school teacher spouse in Rezé.

She had worked since 2012 in the Rezéen Allende public college.

Seduced by the political project of Hervé Neau, himself a teacher, this mother of three children had joined the municipal team in favor of the 2020 elections.

Mayor for a year and a half, Hervé Neau, 58, killed himself by leaving letters for his relatives.

A public tribute will be paid to him on Saturday afternoon (3 p.m.) in front of Rezé town hall.
