Amnesty International warns that there could be a major humanitarian catastrophe in Eastern Europe if the crisis in Ukraine escalates.

Ukraine's ambassador to Sweden says that they are preparing for a scenario with large crowds of people who want to leave the country.

- Russia is to blame for the humanitarian crisis.

The Government of Ukraine, together with international partners and organizations, is doing its utmost to help ordinary people so that they do not suffer.

We are preparing for a scenario with migrants, says Plakhotniuk to SVT News.

Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) said on Tuesday that in such a scenario Sweden should not be a large recipient country.

- I have been very clear when I discussed this with my colleagues in the EU that we can never get back to the situation we had in 2015, Andersson says to DN.

"Do our best not to let it happen"

The Ukrainian ambassador says that he and Ukraine are grateful for the sanctions imposed on Russia, in the future he expects continued political, economic and military support.

Regarding how the EU should handle a coming wave of refugees, he says:

- If a migrant situation arises, the international community will make the decisions necessary to deal with the situation.

Right now we are doing our best to prevent this from happening in the future, says Plakhotniuk and continues:

- All countries have their sovereign right to decide what steps to take.

It is important to point out that as a result of the conflict, we already have 1.8 million domestic refugees.

The ambassador believes that the feeling among Ukrainians right now is unanimity:

- The situation is very tense but our people are united.

We are ready to defend our country.

We will resist, he says.
