• Direct Casado-Ayuso, PP crisis, last minute

  • Chronicle of the day Casado gives in and dispenses with García Egea as general secretary of the PP after the deep internal crisis of the party

The support was falling yesterday to Pablo Casado like the leaves of a tree in autumn.

Inevitably and melancholy, the still president of the PP verified that each time he had fewer, and fewer, and fewer chances of surviving.

But even so, during a good part of this Tuesday

particular giornata

Casado believed -or so he conveyed- that he could still save his position at the head of the party, despite the fact that even his own were abandoning him in a continuous trickle and cruel.

"Sunken" personally but still seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, early in the morning Pablo Casado began to call the barons of his party.

Those who spoke with him describe him as a leader with a breath of hope.

In other words, “out of reality”.

And they all lament the personal nightmare that his friend is experiencing.

The leaders called each other dazed like a boxer in the ninth round.

One of them couldn't take it anymore and burst into tears when he told another that he had just spoken "with Pablo."

And that he couldn't understand it.

«He called me Casado and told me what I thought was going to happen at the meeting.

But what?

They are not focused.

They have lost their minds, they have lost their minds!” recounts a baron of those who govern, with a truly downcast voice.

He was referring to the meeting that is going to take place today, at 8:00 p.m.

between the leader of the PP and the regional presidents.

All except Navarre

Ana Beltrán

-at the time, number three of Genoa-, have confirmed that they will ask for her head.

- President, you have to go, there is no way out.

- Well, let's see if I can hold out until the congress.

- If you make it to tomorrow, it's going to be a coven, Pablo!

After this other call, an uninterrupted via crucis began for Casado, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., when Teodoro García Egea, with whom he had bitterly fought at the Genoa headquarters, appeared before the cameras of

La Sexta

to give his version.

The never-ending day closed with swords raised and Casado sunk by a domino effect in tsunami mode.

BARONS DRIP

.

At about 11:00 a.m., this newspaper published that there were already at least 14 regional presidents against Casado.

They were all going to ask for his head at the meeting.

In addition to Feijóo, Juanma Moreno (Andalusia), Isabel Díaz Ayuso (Madrid), Alfonso Fernández Mañueco (Castilla y León),

Teresa Mallada

(Asturias),

Alejandro Fernández

(Catalonia),

Paco Núñez

(Castilla-La Mancha), José Antonio Monago (Extremadura),

María José Sáenz de Buruaga

(Cantabria),

Jorge Azcón

(Aragon),

Carlos Mazón

(Valencian Community),

Marga Prohens

(Balearic Islands), Carlos Iturgaiz (Basque Country),

José Ignacio Ceniceros

(The Rioja).

But as the minutes progressed, two more were added, so that at 12:37 they were joined by

Manuel Domínguez

(Canary Islands) and at 12:50 even Fernando López Miras, president of Murcia and personal friend of Egea, confirmed to this newspaper that Casado he could not continue to lead and he was betting on an extraordinary congress.

Casado's fate was cast, but not only by the barons.

THE DEPUTIES

.

Before 12:00, a deputy close to Casado called him by phone to inform him that the leadership of the Popular Parliamentary Group was going to ask for Egea's resignation and an extraordinary congress.

The secretary general resisted throughout the day.

That letter was signed by PP deputies Guillermo Mariscal, José Ignacio Echániz, Pablo Hispán (ex-director of Casado's Cabinet, precisely), Sandra Moneo, Carlos Rojas, Mario Garcés and Adolfo Suárez Illana (who was number two for Casado on the list of Madrid of 2019).

"We request the immediate dismissal of the general secretary of the PP," the letter read.

In fact, they managed to remove him from today's government control session.

He will be replaced by Diego Movellán.

ALMEIDA AND THE DIRECTIVE

.

After 12:00, José Luis Martínez-Almeida resigned as national spokesperson for the PP.

He married was already a political corpse, but he clung to his chances.

For this reason, at 5:00 p.m., the PP spokesmen in Congress and the Senate, Cuca Gamarra and Javier Maroto, insisted on the extraordinary conclave to “overcome this situation.”

Or they would resign.

And Andrea Levy feigned to follow the path of Belén Hoyo -the first resignation of the day- and cease in the dome.

At 6:15 p.m., Casado gave in and announced an extraordinary congress.
