A man, prosecuted for acts of aggravated violence against two men, on August 15, 2019, during the Béziers feria (Hérault), was sentenced by the Béziers criminal court to seven years in prison.

He also received a prohibition to possess a weapon and the deprivation of the right of eligibility for five years.

The facts took place in the middle of the night, in the center of the Hérault sub-prefecture.

Two brothers, from the Paris region, aged 21 and 30, had been taken to hospital in absolute urgency.

The eldest had received four stab wounds and had been granted a total interruption of work (ITT) of ten days, and the youngest, ten stab wounds, requiring hospitalization for several months and 84 days of ITT, reports the prosecutor of Béziers, Raphaël Balland.

Already sentenced

The investigations had made it possible to establish the arrest of four suspects, an adult, sentenced on February 18, and three minors.

The police had identified a futile motive for the attack, a “cigarette story”.

"Despite their varied and changing versions, all ended up admitting to having committed violence against the victims, but only the major was designated as having stabbed, which he ended up recognizing", continues the prosecutor.

The three minors will soon be tried by the Béziers juvenile court.

Before the court, the man indicated that he had gone to the feria, when he was very drunk, to look for his little brother there and that he had wanted to defend him, considering that he was taken to task by a group of individuals.

Receiving a punch himself, he said, he then stabbed several times, "without remembering precisely the course of events", notes the prosecutor.

The man, who has already been the subject of three convictions between 2014 and 2020, in particular for theft and prohibited carrying of a category 6 weapon, but never for violence, expressed regret.
