“We are closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and are exploring various options for replacing Russian gas,” said Ansa Räätäri, Communications and Human Resources Manager at Ovako.

According to her, the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia could become an alternative source of fuel.

According to the TV company, gas is supplied to Finland in approximately equal volumes both from Russia and via Balticconnector.

Olli Sipilä, CEO of Gasgrid Finland, an operator of the Finnish gas transmission system, believes that, thanks to an alternative gas pipeline, there will be enough gas for Finland even if supplies from Russia stop.

“Balticconnector makes it possible to gain access through Estonia to a gas storage facility in Latvia and an LNG terminal in Lithuania,” he summed up.
