A couple from Gien (Loiret) suspected of having deprived of care for a 7-year-old girl with disabilities was imprisoned on Monday.

The pre-trial detention of the child's mother and stepfather came after their indictment on the same day.

The girl was found dead by firefighters on the evening of February 16, says France Bleu Orléans.

Rescuers were called to the suspects' home.

A disputed version of the facts

They had claimed that the child had succumbed to a false route.

The SMUR doctor dispatched to the scene doubted this explanation and the gendarmes were notified.

The investigation was finally entrusted to the criminal center of Orleans (Loiret).

The little girl was born very premature and had since presented several handicaps.

His situation required extensive medical care and strict monitoring.

The 27-year-old woman and her 31-year-old companion had arrived from Guadeloupe a year earlier to settle in Gien.
