Launching the "Abu Dhabi Smart Learning Center" to develop e-learning
As part of its continuous efforts to improve the quality of electronic and smart education in the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East and North Africa region, Abu Dhabi University announced the launch of the Abu Dhabi University Smart Learning Center, which uses technology and research to develop teaching practices in education and electronic curricula at Abu Dhabi University.
The center, which will be located on both the university's campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, will train faculty members in comprehensive student-centered educational techniques.
The launch of the new center comes with the aim of integrating emerging technologies and employing them in the physical and e-learning environments to enhance students' excellence and increase their ability to achieve academic achievement.
The new center was developed in cooperation with a group of prestigious bodies in the field of e-learning such as Quality Matters Foundation, the Federation of e-Learning, and the European Foundation for Quality Management, with the aim of designing e-learning programs and courses that comply with the highest international standards applicable in the field of e-learning.
Through this center, Abu Dhabi University seeks to lay the foundations for a distinguished educational system, and to promote the concept of inclusive learning based on the principle of "universal design for learning", which encourages the use of a variety of curricula and teaching methods that take into account the different needs of students, and guarantee them equal educational opportunities that enable them to excel academically. .
The center will work to supplement the capabilities of the faculty members at Abu Dhabi University and enrich them with various methods supported by the best electronic and digital education tools.
Faculty members will also be able to earn a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PgCHEP), which equips them with the knowledge and skills needed to design, teach and evaluate the educational process, with a particular focus on practice in higher education institutions.
The Postgraduate Certificate in Learning focuses primarily on the professional development of faculty members, ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational content.
The Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Abu Dhabi University has been evaluated and compared to a number of world-renowned educational programmes, including the UK Professional Standards Framework - Description (I) and Description (II).
The Abu Dhabi University Smart Learning Center was launched during the annual “Faculty Development Day” event organized at the main campus of Abu Dhabi University, in the presence of Professor Waqar Ahmed, President of Abu Dhabi University, Professor Thomas Hostetler, Vice Chancellor of the University, and a number of university leaders and members of the academic and administrative staff of the university.
Abu Dhabi University Director, Professor Waqar Ahmed, said: “We are pleased to launch the Abu Dhabi University Smart Learning Center on the university’s two campuses in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi to develop the capabilities of faculty members, and provide their skills and expertise with the best teaching methods and the latest e-learning tools, thus contributing to the provision of advanced educational curricula. It will contribute to enhancing student success and excellence rates. The new center will contribute to enhancing the flexibility of curricula and educational programs at Abu Dhabi University to keep pace with the requirements of the future by harnessing the potential of technology to improve the outcomes of the educational process in environments of in-person or distance learning."
