Today, there are 247,175 inhabitants in Kalmar County, which means that the population increased by 1,165 people in 2021. In Kronoberg County, the population has increased by 1,077 people, which means that today there are 203,340 people living in the county.
- What makes the population in Kronoberg increase compared to the year before is above all the influx.
8,588 people moved there last year, while 8,093 moved from there, says Tomas Johansson, population statistician at Statistics Sweden in a press release.
Half of the municipalities will be fewer
Despite the fact that the population in Kalmar County on the whole is growing in number, the number of inhabitants in half of the county's municipalities is decreasing.
Emmaboda, Hultsfred, Högsby, Mönsterås, Torsås and Vimmerby - all became more sparsely populated in 2021.
- It is worrying that half of our municipalities are declining in population.
One of our biggest challenges is to get the whole county to take part in the population increase.
