The shepherd's answer to the shepherdess.
A major farmer from Arles (Bouches-du-Rhône), accused of "violence" against journalists from
France 2
, was sentenced Monday to a fine of 1,000 euros, more than the 700 euros required, by the court of Tarascon police.
The farmer will also have to pay 1,000 euros to one of the journalists for the physical damage suffered, according to the court's decision.
At the time of the facts, in the summer of 2020, the two journalists from
France 2
were producing, with a third journalist, a report after more than 250 cases of coronavirus had been detected in foreign agricultural workers.
The latter were mostly seconded to fields in Provence, via a Spanish temporary work company, Terra Fecundis, which has since been convicted by the Marseilles court for organized fraud.
At the time, the prefecture had closed down some places of accommodation, deemed unworthy, used by this company.
In particular one of them, located on one of the properties of the farmer accused of violence against journalists from
France 2
.
The latter had posted themselves in front of one of the farmer's properties to try to make him react when he arrived in a 4X4, rushing with his vehicle towards the team.
After stopping nearby, the man got out of his vehicle and kicked one of the journalists, according to the latter's testimony at the hearing in late December.
