The Anti-Fraud Office of Catalonia is investigating the emergency contract that the Generalitat awarded to a company for the supply of medical supplies during the first state of alarm, for an amount of more than 60 million euros.

The supervisory body dependent on the Parliament considers that the company Basic Devices, which received this emergency order for medical supplies from the Generalitat in March 2020, when ERC directed the Ministries of Health and Economy through

Alba Vergés

and

Pere Aragonès

, had some "weak" references.

He also calls it "recklessness" that the corporation received an advance of 35 million euros given the "lack of legal coverage" to execute that operation.

Anti-fraud sent its considerations to the Government on February 9, and gives thirty days to the Ministry of Economy, directed by

Jaume Giró,

and the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) to report on the measures adopted in relation to the alleged " irregularities" that he appreciates.

On March 19, 2020, the ICS contracted the company Basic Devices SL, which presented itself as an intermediary in the Chinese market, for the supply of medical supplies for an amount of just over 60 million, which included surgical masks and FFP2, biohazard clothing, respirators and other components.

A day later, on March 20, 2020, in the midst of the first state of alarm, the department of the Vice Presidency and of Economy and Finance led by the now president Aragonès made an advance payment of 35 million.

In its report, the Anti-Fraud Office points out the "lack of information regarding the origin and preliminary contacts" to the emergency order that the Generalitat made to the company Basic Devices in March 2020.

The body indicates that there is no record in the Public Registry of the Generalitat of any contract awarded to this company prior to this emergency order, which has been the subject of investigation by this body, nor that it had any workers in its charge.

For this reason, it concludes that the preliminary consultations for the emergency assignment "have not been enlightening or transparent."

"These initial lack of information deactivated any mechanism for the prevention, arrest and resolution of conflicts of interest or the fight against corruption", underlines Anti-Fraud.
