A vast trafficking in counterfeit luxury goods has recently taken on unexpected proportions.

First estimated at 1.8 million euros, the total amount of the goods seized, mainly perfumes and clothing, was reassessed at 15.7 million euros by customs, reports

Twelve people arrested

In October 2021, the police investigation led to the arrest of 12 people, particularly in Loiret, and five of them were imprisoned.

All of the searches had uncovered more than 100,000 counterfeit pieces, “very large quantities of perfumes, but also textiles such as football shirts, and leather goods, such as Louis Vuitton bags”, indicated a policeman from the Interministerial Research Group (GIR) of Orleans to AFP.

“They brewed these perfumes in very large quantities because they were able to place orders for €250,000 all at once,” he said.

A father and his son at the heart of the investigation

Some of these products had been discovered in Sandillon (Loiret) in the garden of a family.

The 54-year-old father and his 21-year-old son are also among the suspects in this case.

The youngest's request for release was rejected last week by the investigative chamber of the Orleans Court of Appeal.

The GIR and the Orléans judicial police are continuing their investigation for the time being.
