The Saudi-led coalition announced that 16 civilians of different nationalities were injured as a result of the interception of a drone launched from Yemen towards King Abdullah Airport in Jizan, in the southwest of the Kingdom.

In a statement reported by the official Saudi Press Agency, the coalition said that "a drone that was launched towards King Abdullah Airport in Jizan was destroyed."

He added that "the fragments of the interception of the plane fell in the inner perimeter of the airport and injured 4 civilians, according to an initial report," noting that the plane "launched from Sanaa International Airport to target civilians."

In a second statement, the coalition announced that the casualties "as a result of the hostile operation on Jazan Airport have risen to 16 civilians of different nationalities (unspecified)."

And earlier on Monday, the coalition announced, in a statement, that a booby-trapped drone had crashed in a village in southern Saudi Arabia, after it had taken off from Sanaa International Airport, which is under the control of the Houthis, without causing any casualties.

The Houthis used to launch ballistic missiles and booby-trapped drones at Saudi, Emirati and Yemeni regions, in return for repeated declarations by the coalition to thwart these attacks.

At the request of Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, the Saudi-led coalition has supported the pro-government forces since March 2015, in the face of the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have controlled governorates including the capital, Sanaa, since September 2014.
