The technical and catering premises (kitchen and canteen room) of the Batignolles public school group, Haluchère district in Nantes, were damaged by a fire that occurred overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

Shortly before 11 p.m., a fire broke out in two vehicles parked outside the establishment.

The flames then spread to part of the premises, causing significant damage to around 100 m2, say the Loire-Atlantique firefighters.

The school, which has 366 children, only reopened for four small and middle section classes on Monday morning.

All the elementary students, as well as two large section classes, could not be accommodated as usual due to the lack of heating and electricity.

The reopening of the premises can only take place after a refurbishment, which could last a few days, reports the city of Nantes.

At the same time, the city is looking for a sustainable solution for school catering.

In the meantime, families are invited to provide a picnic.

The town hall of Nantes has filed a complaint.

An investigation has been opened.
