• Justice The judge cites the former head of ETA 'Iñaki de Rentería' as being investigated for ordering the murder of Gregorio Ordóñez

  • Terrorism The judge accuses the former 'number one' of ETA 'Mikel Antza' for his "responsibility in the decision to assassinate" Gregorio Ordóñez

The former leader of ETA

Iñaki de Rentería

has faced this morning before the judge his alleged participation in the murder of the PP councilor in San Sebastián

Gregorio Ordoñez

.

By videoconference from the courts of that city,

Ignacio Miguel García Arregui

has refused to answer the questions of the judge, the prosecutor, and the private and popular accusations.

His intervention in the National Court has been limited to saying that he was not going to testify and that he did not identify the facts that were imputed to him, according to sources who have attended the hearing.

What he is charged with, according to Judge

Alejandro Abascal

's order , is having participated in "the decision to assassinate" Ordóñez, given his membership of the Executive Committee of the terrorist group.

That role corresponds to authorship by induction -or intellectual authorship- and carries the same penalty as material authorship.

The PP and the

AVT

have requested the provisional prison for

Iñaki de Rentería

, to which the private accusation has been added.

Dignity and Justice

, in line with what was agreed in the case with other accused ETA leaders, has requested that his passport be withdrawn and that he be prohibited from leaving Spain.

The Prosecutor's Office has not seen any more measure necessary than that of the accused indicating an address in which to locate him, although he has specified that he would not challenge any harsher measure that was agreed upon.

Finally, the judge has adopted the same measure as with

Mikel Albisu,

alias

Mikel Antza, accused of the same acts:

the withdrawal of his passport and the prohibition to leave Spain.

That of Gregorio Ordóñez is one of the various cases opened in the National High Court in which the conviction of the top leaders of ETA is sought for ordering a specific attack.

The thesis is that his belonging to the

Zuba

-Executive Committee of ETA- implies that they participated in the decision, given the strong hierarchy of the terrorist group.
