Good evening,

not a happy weekend.

It was all about commemorating the terrible attack in Hanau two years ago.

The central event in the big city would certainly have been much, much bigger without the pandemic - but only 100 women and men were allowed in the main cemetery.

Such commemorations can quickly become a ritual.

The fact that this was not the case was due on the one hand to the continued shock of the politicians who spoke there, especially Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) found haunting words, on the other hand to the ongoing anger of the victims' relatives at the authorities, which they felt in their short speeches.

But not everything goes wrong.

Our correspondent Luise Glaser-Lotz praises above all the many new initiatives in Hanau against racism.

A case in Frankfurt also shows how urgently it is still necessary to teach people that they should not look down on others.

Not everyone will know the local politician Jumas Medoff, he does not sit in the front row, but he was elected to the city council with his own list and he is chairman of the local foreigners' representation, which is abbreviated to KAV.

Medoff has now made it public that he received an anti-Semitic threatening letter, "Jew, you still haven't understood it to this day," it says, and "Jews out of the KAV."

There are moments when one hesitates to write down the often-heard sentence that Frankfurt is a cosmopolitan city.

Because the "lateral thinkers" always check very carefully whether their demonstrations are also mentioned in the media, it should first be noted that on Saturday there were again around 3,000 demonstrating in Frankfurt.

But, and this is much more interesting, they are increasingly no longer alone on the street. The residents of the north end in particular feel it goes against the grain that the opponents of vaccination are roaming through their neighborhood week after week.

The critics of the critics do not stand in the way, but on the way.

With that, the protest grows;

A good week ago, 60 Frankfurters from politics and society, led by Frankfurt's mayor, published a statement in which they pointed out the influence of right-wing extremists on the Corona demonstrations.

As I said, no happy topics this weekend.

And

there were also eight injured in a fight among young people on Saturday evening in Frankfurt's Niddapark, a sixteen-year-old had to go to the hospital +++ the new property tax will be a lot of work for all property owners - an overview of the rules can be found on Monday on the consumer page of the Rhine -Main-Zeitung +++ the actor Ulrich Matthes put together a selection of films for the Film Museum in Frankfurt, about which he spoke with colleague Eva-Maria Magel.

I wish you a pleasant evening

Yours, Manfred Koehler
