Taiwan Prime Minister calls for punishment of female athlete for wearing Chinese uniform (Watch)

Taiwanese Prime Minister Su Tsing-chang has demanded that Taiwanese Olympic figure skater Huang Yu-ting be punished, after she wore the Chinese team's uniform during training and posted a video of her on social media.

Taiwan media quoted a government spokesman as saying on Sunday that the prime minister had asked the sports authorities to investigate "improper behavior" so that the 33-year-old athlete receives "appropriate punishment".

Huang is one of four athletes to represent Taiwan at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Taiwan competes as "Chinese Taipei" in the Olympic Games.

Figure skater Huang Yu-ting, one of four Taiwanese athletes participating in the Beijing Winter Olympics, posted a video on her social media pages on January 23, showing her training in what appeared to be Chinese clothes, the agency said. Taiwan news.

The video clip, in which the athlete appeared in a black and red uniform with "China" written on it, sparked controversy in Taiwan.

In response, Hwang deleted the video.

She wrote, "Sports is a sport, and in the world of sports, we do not differentiate between nationalities. After the Games, we are all friends."

She got the outfit from a girlfriend in the Chinese team.

Taiwan initially refrained from punishing her, only criticizing her as lacking civility.
