Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for

Covid

and has

"symptoms like those of a mild cold"

, as announced by Buckingham Palace.

The confirmation comes 10 days after Prince Charles tested positive, having visited his mother at Windsor Castle 48 hours earlier.

The 95-year-old monarch, who returned to normal activity last Monday after the hiatus from the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for her 70 years in the crown, plans to continue with a "light agenda" despite having contracted the disease, according to the official statement.

"Her Majesty will continue to receive medical attention and follow the rules in an appropriate manner," concludes the brief press release from Buckingham Palace, criticized for the silence maintained for days after the "positive" results from Prince Charles and his wife Camilla.

The news comes just 24 hours before the almost total lifting of the restrictions by the 'premier' Boris Johnson, who plans to announce his new strategy on Monday,

"Learning to live with Covid"

.

Daily cases continue to decline in the UK (34,377) and so do deaths (128) and hospitalizations.

Hours before the queen's "positive" was confirmed, Johnson urged the British to

"have confidence and return to the offices"

starting next Thursday, renamed

Covid Freedom Day

("Covid Freedom Day") by British conservative tabloids.

All the rules - including the quarantine in case of testing positive - will be abolished in England, as will the massive testing program that costs 2.4 billion euros per month.

"We are in a different world

," proclaimed the 'premier', criticized by the Labor opposition for political opportunism to divert attention from the Partygate scandal.

Several scientists from the SAGE group that advises the Government have, however, sounded the alarm in the face of the premature lifting of the restrictions and have warned that it is not ruled out that new variants more aggressive than the Omicron may appear in the coming months.

The confirmation of Elizabeth II's "positive" has reactivated criticism in the British media against the secrecy of Buckingham Palace, which last October hid that for several days

the queen spent a night in hospital

on medical recommendation and with visible signs of fatigue.

The monarch suspended her official agenda for more than two months

, limited her daily activity and dispatched virtually, as she did during the Covid restrictions.

On February 15, the Spanish ambassador to the United Kingdom, José Pascual Marco Martínez, actually presented his credentials to the queen, virtually and from Buckingham Palace.

That same day, official photos and a short video were published of Elizabeth II, with a cane in her hand while dispatching in Windsor with the new Secretary of the Defense Services, General Eldon Millar.

Asked how she feels, the queen implicitly acknowledged her frailty and pointed to her left leg: "As you can see, I can't move."

Speculation about his state of health skyrocketed again this week.

From the start of the pandemic, Elizabeth II decided to isolate herself from her at Windsor Castle, where she spent confinement in the company of Philip of Edinburgh, until her death in April last year.

The queen recently spent several days at her Sandringham residence, where she celebrated her Platinum Jubilee on February 6.

On February 8, back in Windsor, she received a visit from her son Carlos de Ella, who two days later tested "positive" (and for the second time) in the Covid test.

Elizabeth II received the first vaccine in January 2021

and the second is supposed to be in October, and also the third booster, although Buckingham Palace has not confirmed it and has defended on more than one occasion the

"right to medical privacy "from the monarch

.
