'Partygate' Can Boris Johnson Survive Partygate?
Downing Street 287 years of parties, drunkenness and cocaine
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has delivered his response to the police questionnaire about
Downing Street
parties that may have breached health regulations imposed by the pandemic, his office confirmed on Friday.
Police are investigating Johnson's alleged attendance at parties and gatherings that flouted lockdown and social distancing rules, following media revelations that have left the prime minister fighting for political survival.
Last week,
Scotland Yard
said it would send "formal questionnaires to more than 50 people" asking about their activities on the dates of at least 12 meetings in
Downing Street
between 2020 and 2021. The document "has a formal legal status and must be answered with sincerity" within seven days, the police said.
The prime minister, who has submitted his response on time, risks a fine unless he can offer credible reasons why he attended these events despite
coronavirus
restrictions .
Johnson has already apologized in Parliament for a series of encounters identified in a report written by a senior official, but has shown himself willing to remain in office.
