The former Socialist Minister of Health Marisol Touraine announced this Saturday in an interview with Le Parisien that she will support Emmanuel Macron in the presidential election because he represents "the useful and responsible vote".

“Our country is facing major international, social and environmental challenges.

He is tormented by fears.

The extreme right is very strong, it stirs up hatred and divides the country.

Faced with this, the right went astray and the left evaporated.

The useful and responsible vote is Emmanuel Macron ”, explains the one who rubbed shoulders with the current head of state in the government of François Hollande.

An unofficial application

Emmanuel Macron, who has still not formalized his candidacy, is "the only one who has the solidity to face the challenges and carry a positive vision of the future", adds Marisol Touraine, currently president of the Unitaid organization, in withdrawal from political life since his defeat in the 2017 legislative elections.

Without wanting to get into “Hidalgo bashing”, she will not support the socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo because “the PS has not been able to use the last five years to bounce back and bring new ideas”.

She says she supports the current head of state so that "ideas from the left can be heard more", while Emmanuel Macron is regularly accused of having mainly attracted figures from the right.

No representation in legislative elections

According to her, “the balance sheet is mainly dominated by the management of the health crisis, from which France will come out with its head held high.

However, the choice of "whatever it costs" is not questionable for someone on the left, ”she assures.

Asked about certain reforms of Emmanuel Macron considered right-wing, such as the abolition of the ISF, she said that "there are obviously measures, some very symbolic, which I did not support".

“But what he has done since, with the strengthening of the activity bonus, the Ségur de la santé in particular, seems to me marked with the seal of balance”, she adds.

The former minister, who does not intend to appear in the legislative elections in June, also believes that "everything that allows the simplification of pension schemes is positive" and that "the idea of working longer can be heard".
