Martin Dichgans, Head of the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (ISD) at the Munich University Hospital, explains the differences between Alzheimer's dementia and vascular dementia.

In 20 percent of cases, it occurs as a result of a stroke.

A major stroke increases the risk of dementia by 25 years.

Consistent prevention is therefore important.
