The war between Pablo Casado and Isabel Díaz Ayuso has left the mayor of Madrid and national spokesperson for the PP, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, at a crossroads.

And, at that crossroads, he loses companions while he remains silent and doubts about the involvement of the Municipal Housing and Land Company (EMVS), dependent on the Madrid City Council, far from dissipating, are being stirred up from all sides.

The first to do so is Ciudadanos, his government partner, who yesterday showed his "doubts" with the explanations that the councilor gave on Thursday morning when the alleged espionage case had already exploded.

"We left with more doubts than certainties because the president has denied us the mayor's words about the investigation", remarked the delegate of Urban Development and number 2 of Citizens,

Mariano Fuentes,

after the extraordinary and urgent meeting of the Board of Directors of the EMVS that make up all the municipal groups of the capital and that was held yesterday morning.

The deputy mayor, Begoña Villacís, was no less, who pointed out that the versions of Almeida in his intervention before the media on Thursday and that of Álvaro González, president of the EMVS, yesterday were

"incongruous" and again stressed that the trust between the government partners is "damaged"

.

However, from Ciudadanos, as its leader confirmed again, they are not considering presenting a motion of censure in the Consistory for which they would need the PSOE and Más Madrid.

Also within the municipal government, already in the

popular

group itself , Almeida has found another front.

While the councilor tries to navigate the troubled waters between Génova and Puerta del Sol without positioning himself on either side, his Culture delegate, Andrea Levy, has done so without hesitation.

"I feel great pride in being part of Pablo Casado's team, who has worked tirelessly for the PP and who will be the best president for Spain," the councilor wrote on her Twitter account on Thursday.

In addition, in the case of Levy, a second element is added.

She is the president of the Committee of Rights and Guarantees of the PP and

will be in charge of assessing whether the information file opened to Isabel Díaz Ayuso

for her attack on the national leadership should be sanctioned.

A fact that could even lead to the disqualification of the regional president, according to the statutes of the party itself.

And, in the middle of all this, there is Almeida who has not spoken since Thursday morning.

He did not do it with the resignation of Ángel Carromero, whom he himself had pointed out in his appearance, on Thursday morning, and he did not do it yesterday either.

After the celebration of the Local Security Board of the city of Madrid, the first mayor went to the press room of the Plaza de la Villa accompanied by the Government delegate in Madrid, Mercedes González, to make an assessment of the meeting and of the situation.

When it was time for questions,

his press team warned that the mayor would only respond to those related to the security of the city

.

When questioned by journalists about where and when he could be asked about matters relating to the party as national spokesman, Almeida replied with a terse "they are used to me always answering quickly" before leaving the room and locking himself in the office of the Villa Palace.

In fact, the mayor, who is usually very active on social media, has not even tweeted in the last two days since the scandal came to light.

The municipal opposition has charged against that silence.

Yesterday the spokeswoman for Más Madrid, Rita Maestre, stated that the mayor

"is incapable of explaining the seriousness of the corruption and espionage scandal in which his party is involved and unfortunately this City Council"

.

“Almeida has fled because yesterday [on Thursday] he lied.

His statements that he gave in the morning lasted twelve hours because twelve hours later his right-hand man resigned without giving any explanation confirming that the City Council is part of this espionage network », she concluded.

From the PSOE, its spokesman, Mar Espinar, stated that the explanations given by the mayor are "insufficient" and "incongruous" and requested the convening of an urgent Board of Spokespersons to deal with "the institutional crisis."

«Yesterday we saw a dislocated mayor, who

has lied to his government partner, and that he does not seem to have the capacity to manage anything

except trying to keep his party from collapsing.

Madrid needs a strong government », she said.

Even from Recupera Madrid, which has served as Almeida's support in his latest major projects such as the Mobility Ordinance or the Budgets, yesterday they presented a question in the plenary session that is held next Tuesday for Almeida to explain Carromero's resignation.

Not so Vox where there have been no statements regarding this case from any of its leaders.

Despite this situation, neither Más Madrid nor PSOE see a motion of censure in the Palacio de Cibeles as likely due to the refusal that Ciudadanos seems to show, which neither in public nor in private maintains contacts to definitively break its political relationship with Almeida.

And with open war around, the mayor's silence remains.
