Two different alternatives have been on the table regarding the expansion of the central station.

The proposal that was rejected was to extend the station to the south.

- This decision is a prerequisite for the upcoming planning of the lighthouse that we are planning for.

We have looked at different solutions on how Uppsala Central Station should be developed and landed in this solution, says Lotten Herrman, regional director at the Swedish Transport Administration.

According to the Swedish Transport Administration, the advantages of widening the station include shorter walking distances between platforms and the travel center, better integration in the city, and less impact on the nearby freight yard.

A partial decision

The proposal has been investigated and has been out for consultation.

- The widening takes place in connection with the construction of the lighthouse track.

This is a partial decision and the next step is that we plan in detail.

At present, we do not see any functions that will disappear or be demolished, but we will investigate this further, says Lotten Herrman.

The Swedish Transport Administration is now continuing the planning work by producing a railway plan for the section between Uppsala Central Station and the planned new station Södra Bergsbrunna.

The lighthouse track will be ready in 2033.
