At the Assize Court of Isère

The verdict is in.

On Friday, Nordahl Lelandais was sentenced by the Isère Assize Court to life imprisonment with a 22-year security period for the murder of Maëlys de Araujo and the sexual assaults of two of his little cousins, including her 4-year-old goddaughter.

The day before, Advocate General Jacques Dallest had requested life imprisonment, accompanied by a 22-year security sentence, describing the accused as "great predator" and "great criminal" and "absolute social danger".

“You are a destroyer of happiness, a pest of innocence”, he had launched in the direction of the person concerned.

This Friday, Nordahl Lelandais, who spoke last, once again apologized to the families of the victims.

"I know they won't want it but they are sincere," he said in a contrite voice.

And to recognize “all the facts with which he is accused”.

The former soldier also promises to do “this long work” on him: “I heard what the psychiatric experts said.

I am aware of it.

I will do it with great determination”.

Getting out of the truth that he has built himself and in which he has "walled himself" will take "a lifetime", warned the experts, convinced of the "significant risk of recidivism".

And ending by indicating that a “psychopath does not change”.
