Armed men believed to belong to the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (GSIM or Jnim) carried out these attacks in the villages of Kaygouratane, Bakan, Tadjilalt Tin-Agiigii and Haroun, according to Souleymane Ag Mahmoud, an elected official from Ansongo.

The latter returns to the facts at the microphone of Minati Diallo, from the Dakar editorial staff of the RFI Fulfulde service.

The first time, the Jnim came to the commune on the 10th and there was only material damage.

After their withdrawal, there was the Islamic State.

Each on his own entered the commune.

The first is the Jnim, it entered and there were sabotages.

On the 13th, 14th, 15th there were these abuses.

Thirty dead in Kaygouratane, 2 in Bakan and 8 in Haroun.

The communities fled.

We cannot say that the balance sheet is final.

The facts occurred in the so-called three-border area, one of the centers of violence that is shaking the Sahel.

The Islamic State in the Greater Sahara and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims, an alliance of armed groups belonging to the al-Qaeda nebula, are particularly active there.

In addition to attacking national or foreign armies, they have been waging a territorial war there since 2020.
