The video, which has more than five million views, is chilling.

On Thursday, a violent wave hit a ferry sailing on the Elbe near Hamburg, in northern Germany.

On these impressive images, we see waterspouts penetrating violently inside the boat.

The windows of the craft failed to withstand the pressure and shattered instantly, reports the

Huffington Post

.

The onslaught of the waves was so sudden that the passengers had no time to react when the windows shattered.

Only a few people were on the ferry when the incident occurred.

Most of them were sitting in the back and therefore had time to flee.

But some passengers, located in the front, were thrown backwards by the force of the impact.

No one was injured, according to local media.

An investigation has been opened to understand why the windows gave way.

Several victims in Europe

The ferry was the victim of the Ylenia storm which particularly shook Germany overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

The gusts were particularly violent with peaks recorded at 152 km / h by the German meteorological services.

In Lower Saxony (north), a 37-year-old motorist was killed by a tree that fell on his car, according to the police.

Another 55-year-old driver died in the same conditions in the state of Saxony-Anhalt (center), according to the police.

The storm also caused a lot of damage, from torn roofs to power cuts, and severely disrupted air and rail traffic.

Several other countries in Europe were also hit by a storm on Thursday.

In Krakow, in southern Poland, the fall of a construction crane due to strong gusts killed two workers and injured two others.

Another man was killed when a tree fell on his car in the west of the country.

The wind seriously damaged some 500 houses, tore roofs off, felled hundreds of trees and deprived 324,000 homes of electricity.

The Czech Republic recorded gusts of more than 181 km / h on Snezka, the highest mountain in the country.
