It has been a major piece in the permanent collection of the Musée d'Aquitaine for more than twenty years.

The recumbent figure (sculpture appearing on the tombs) representing a 13th century knight is two meters long and weighs 650 kg.

If the identity of the knight remains a mystery, the shield adorned with a crowned lion makes it possible to suggest that he belongs to the line of the Curtons, a noble family from Entre-deux-mers, near Bordeaux.

This private work was visible at the Museum of Aquitaine as a deposit;

but its owners want to sell it.

The museum has acquired this recumbent figure, valued at 200,000 euros by experts.

Public support is sought from the Regional Fund for the Acquisition of Museums and the Heritage Fund of French Museums.

The museum has also launched a crowdfunding appeal to raise 15,000 euros initially, like what was done for Montaigne's cenotaph.

More than a hundred contributions have already raised 10,000 euros since February 10.

The call remains open until March 27 to complete the funding and keep this testimony of local heritage in Bordeaux.
