It is mainly the eastern parts of Götaland that have been badly damaged by the storms, from Skåne and up to and including Östergötland.

The most extensive are the damages in Småland and Östergötland.

The same areas have previously been hit by snow breaks during the winter, which means that the volume of damaged forest increases further, the forest owners' association states in a press release.

Increased risk of infestation by spruce bark beetle

Damaged forest makes it more susceptible to the pest insect spruce bark beetle and forest owners are now encouraged to inventory and fell their damaged forest.

- It is important that you as a forest owner immediately inventory your forest property and ensure that the windswept forest is taken care of.

This is the most important measure in the forest protection work and the fight against the spruce bark beetle, says Olof Hansson.

It is also important that the work is done with care when the forest is damaged by storms.

- The work with storm-felled trees is much more difficult and dangerous than ordinary felling work.

Therefore, you should be extra careful with the safety mindset and primarily use professional help and machines when the damage is extensive, says Olof Hansson.

SVT Nyheter Öst has previously spoken with Andreas Tingefors who told how forest owners have been affected:
