There are over 14,200 places in Oxelösund, which means that 118 percent of the population would get a place in the event of a crisis or war.

According to those responsible at MSB, the authority for civil protection and emergency preparedness, the differences between the municipalities are due to the fact that they have been assessed differently from an emergency preparedness perspective.

- At the time when shelters were planned and built, strategic areas were reviewed and shelters were built there.

It could be military strategic areas and important industry, says Anders Johannesson, at the unit for population protection at MSB.

Oxelösund with its harbor and steel industry is one such place and that is the explanation for the many shelters, according to Anders Johannesson.
