"The Secretary of State thanked the Foreign Secretary for his assistance with American citizens who are leaving Ukraine," the State Department website said in a statement.
Earlier, the US State Department called on American diplomats who do not occupy critical positions to leave Ukraine.
The department also said that the US Embassy in Ukraine will be temporarily transferred from Kiev to Lviv.
State Department spokesman Ned Price noted that the US Embassy in Ukraine will return from Lviv back to the capital as soon as it becomes safe there.
