53% increase in work permits last year
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced an increase in the number of work permits issued to private sector establishments during the past year by 53% compared to the year 2020, registering about one million and 550 thousand permits, while the total work permits issued during the year 2020 reached one million and 15 thousand permits, which confirms the effectiveness of the plans. And the strategies implemented by the UAE within the framework of empowering the national economy, activating the attractiveness of the labor market in the country, and enhancing its position as a global destination for attracting talent and skills.
And the year 2021 constituted a year of recovery and growth in the UAE, in light of the continuous support of the concerned official authorities to employers and workers in the private sector, both citizens and residents, by launching and implementing a set of initiatives and procedures, integrated with the “guided comprehensive economic support plan” approved by the UAE Bank. The Central Bank aims to support the national economy and protect consumers and businesses.
The first quarter of last year witnessed the issuance of 402,158 work permits, an increase of 6% over the permits issued during the same period of 2020, which totaled 379,442 work permits.
The second quarter of last year witnessed a noticeable increase in work permits, with a total of 423,272 permits, an increase of about 290% compared to the year 2020, which witnessed the issuance of 108,496 permits.
As for work permits, during the third quarter of last year, they amounted to 320,115 permits, an estimated increase of 46% compared to the year 2020, which witnessed 219,866 permits.
The number of work permits in the fourth quarter of last year reached 403,675, an increase of 31% over the same period of 2020, during which the number of work permits reached 307,280 permits.
