• The Île-de-France region has not hosted the Miss France election for 22 years.

This year, with the title of Diane Leyre, she finds herself in pole position among the possible contenders.

  • According to Sylvie Tellier, interviewed by

    20 Minutes

, the region meets all the logistical criteria to organize the competition on its land.

  • The fact remains that the will of the region, or of one of its cities, is preponderant in the choice of the Miss France company.

Twenty-two years already.

Since the coronation of Sonia Rolland at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris on December 11, 1999, Île-de-France has not hosted a Miss France election ceremony.

But the title of Diane Leyre, the new beauty queen "made in Neuilly-sur-Seine", could change the situation.

Even if, unlike Eurovision, the organization of the prestigious ceremony is not automatically devolved to the region holding the title.

“There is no set rule,” explains Sylvie Tellier.

, the general manager of the Miss France company explains that making the organization automatic by the region holding the title would be complicated: “We usually work one to two years before the election.

Also, I am in perpetual discussion with the regions that come forward.

Île-de-France leaves with a head start

The only rule that Miss France 2002 imposes on herself is to respect a period of five years before reallocating the ceremony to the same region.

“We are making a film where the misses highlight the city and the region hosting the election.

It wouldn't make sense to do it two years in a row.

But the agglomerations are in perpetual motion, and therefore, in five years, they have had time to change.

The only known exception, Lille in 2016 and 2019, which Sylvie Tellier explains by a real desire, first from the city, then from the region.

If the last five regions have little chance of being the lucky ones elected this year, that gives Ile-de-France all the more luck.

But the real opportunity to be seized remains the crown of Diane Leyre according to Sylvie Tellier: "Even when I commit myself in principle with a region one or two years before, I always put a very visible asterisk in the agreement, if the region of the reigning miss commits, she has priority.

It is a tradition that I have imposed since I took the reins of the Miss France society.

Almost all the criteria are met

Île-de-France therefore has every chance… except for two conditions.

The first is to really want the election.

Very popular, the ceremony is eyed by many cities and regions, so the candidates must show a real interest.

“We work in partnership.

There is no money passing through but we are committed to providing them with maximum visibility and we bring economic dynamism by investing in local caterers and hotels.

In exchange, the localities provide us with the spaces.

This requirement thus directly affects the second condition: the region must have a large room, "type Arena, Zenith or large exhibition center", i.e. at least 5,000 seats and a hotel park sufficient to accommodate all the delegations. and guests who must be present.

“We had the case of Alsace, which came to light in 2012 after the election of Delphine Wespiser.

Unfortunately the only room able to accommodate us was the Zénith de Strasbourg.

And in the middle of December, with the Christmas market, there were not enough places available in the hotels”, regrets Sylvie Tellier.

When we want we can

On this last criterion, the director confirms that the Île-de-France has all the logistical advantages to finally grant itself the organization of Miss France: the region has several large rooms which meet the specifications and the hotel structure in the region is as rich as one could wish.

If the cost of such an operation is sometimes difficult to know, the town hall of Caen, hostess of the last election had made public the accounts of the 2022 ceremony. Balance sheet: 31,177 euros payable by the city.

There remains the question of will... On this subject, Sylvie Tellier will not reveal any secrets, preferring to continue the discussions before blowing a direction.

, no institution, from the region to the city of Paris, wished to speak before the verdict, not specifying whether they were applying to receive the ceremony.

At least they know the crown is close at hand...
