BEIJING, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- British Prince Andrew, 61, recently reached an out-of-court settlement with Virginia Giuffre, an American woman who brought a civil lawsuit against him.

The settlement, which includes an unspecified amount of damages, was disclosed in a February 15 filing in federal court in Manhattan, New York.

Giuffre, 38, reportedly said she was one of Epstein's sex trafficking victims and accused Prince Andrew of sexually abusing her when she was 17.

Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against Prince Andrew over the matter last year.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement in January that the British royal family had stripped Prince Andrew, Duke of York, of his military rank and royal patronage as the sexual assault scandal continued.

Prince Andrew has consistently denied having sex with Giuffre, as previously reported, asking the court to dismiss the claim, which was not granted.

Prince Andrew is one of the most well-known figures involved in the Epstein sex scandal.

Epstein committed suicide in his cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial in prison.
