On February 14, local time, Brazilian President Bolsonaro signed a decree to formulate public policies at the government level to support small-scale mining operations in the Amazon region.

According to this decree, the Brazilian government will integrate various departments and social forces in the future to develop small-scale mining on state-owned land in the Amazon region.

A supplement to the decree said that small-scale mining is a source of income for hundreds of thousands of people, so "the government recognizes that this is an important need for individual miners and the surrounding society".

In a separate decree issued this week, Bolsonaro asked the National Mining Agency to develop simplified procedures to provide financial subsidies to small-scale miners.

As of August 2021, including illegal and legal mining areas, the total area of mining areas in Brazil has expanded by nearly six times compared to 1985, of which 72.5% of the mining areas are in the Amazon region.
