Hear Pelle Bokedal about why he thinks a quay should be named after Ingvar Oldsberg.

When Pelle Bokedal sat at work and looked down at the cranes along the quay in Gothenburg, the idea arose to name one after Ingvar Oldsberg.

He wrote a post on social media and was quickly met with thousands of positive reactions.

A vote has now been created on what the quay should be called and proposals such as "Oldsbergs" or "O-quay" have been proposed.

Pelle Bokedal hopes that many Gothenburgers will continue to vote and that the proposal can then be taken up for decision in the municipality.

SVT Väst has talked to the Cultural Administration about the proposal to name a quay after Oldsberg, as a tribute.

But according to officials there,

the rule is that it must be at least five years after a person has died before their name can become relevant as the name of a street or other place.

Unusual to name quays

Once five years have passed, you can send a formal application to the Cultural Administration, which prepares the case and then hands it over to the name committee.

The name committee approves, adjusts or rejects the proposal.

If they approve, their proposal then goes on to the cultural committee for a decision.

When it comes to quays and places that have a function, it is unusual for them to be named after people, but there is nothing to stop it, according to the cultural administration.
