Mrs. Saida Al-Akrimi, wife of the leader of the Tunisian Ennahda movement, Noureddine Al-Behairi, confirmed to Al-Jazeera that the police prevented her from entering Bizerte Hospital to visit her husband.

On December 31, Al-Nahda announced the "kidnapping" of Al-Buhairi by security men in civilian clothes, before he was transferred to the hospital on January 3, after his health deteriorated as a result of his hunger strike in refusal to arrest him.

The wife of Noureddine Al-Buhairi explained to Al-Jazeera that her husband's health has deteriorated significantly and the police are preventing her, as well as her children, from visiting him.

She said that security personnel stormed the recovery room in which al-Buhairi was in Bizerte Hospital while she was with him.

She stated that one of the security personnel tried to assault her while she was in the room.

Mrs. Saida Al-Akrimi had previously stated that there was an attempt to assassinate him on the day of his arrest, and said that the way in which Al-Buhairi was “kidnapped” and hidden for days in an unknown location in Bizerte Governorate, and the confiscation of their phones;

It indicates that there was an intention to assassinate him, considering that it would have likely happened if she had not been on his side.

Fearing for the life of Al-Buhairi

Al-Buhairi's defense said that the police are besieging the Bizerte hospital, where he is receiving treatment, and have prevented his family from visiting him.

In a statement, the Defense Authority expressed its fear for Al-Buhairi's life after describing it as a serious incident, as a number of policemen stormed Al-Buhairi's room in the recovery department during his family's visit to him.

The authority held the Minister of Interior responsible for the consequences of continuing Al-Buhairi's detention on his health and life, according to the statement.

A few days ago, the defense team of Nour El-Din El-Behairy confirmed that it was not possible to supply him with medical fluids due to his health condition, after he went on a continuous hunger strike for 41 days.
