Tunisian President Kais Saied dismissed the interim head of Tunisian Radio, Shukri Cheniti, from his post, about 5 months after he was appointed.

In the latest step of President Said since the dissolution of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Tunisian presidency announced in a statement yesterday, Monday, that the president decided to relieve the interim president of Tunisian Radio Shukri Al-Shiniti from his duties, but he did not specify who will succeed him.

Said had appointed Cheniti as interim president of the national radio station, Radio Tunis, last September.

The statement issued by the Tunisian presidency did not mention the reasons for ending Al-Shiniti's assignment.

Tunisia has been witnessing a severe political crisis since July 25, 2021, when President Said began imposing exceptional measures, including freezing the powers of Parliament, issuing legislation by presidential decrees, dismissing the government, and appointing new ones.

His opponents believe that these measures come as part of his efforts to consolidate power in his grip, and accuse him of dictatorship and undermining the rule of law.

On the other hand, Saeed says that he will protect the rights and freedoms achieved in the 2011 revolution, and that he will put a new constitution to a referendum during the summer, with new parliamentary elections to be held next December.
