Ukraine has demanded an urgent meeting with Russia and OSCE countries, accusing Moscow of not sharing information about its massive troop movements to the Ukrainian border, at the heart of a serious Russian-Western crisis.

In a statement released this Sunday evening, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Dmytro Kuleba, said that Russia had ignored a request from Kiev concerning the Vienna Document, an OSCE text that promotes measures of transparency between the forces. armies of the 57 member countries of the organization.

“We are taking the next step.

Ukraine is calling a meeting with Russia and all (OSCE) member states within 48 hours to discuss the reinforcement and movement of Russian troops along our border and in occupied Crimea,” Kouleba said.

Russia "must honor its commitments to military transparency in order to reduce tensions and enhance the security of all participating states", he continued.

Moscow denies any intentions towards Ukraine

Since November, Russia has massed more than 100,000 troops on Ukraine's eastern borders, raising serious concern among Westerners who fear a new military operation against Kiev after the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Washington repeated on Sunday that Russia could attack Ukraine “at any time”.

Moscow denies any aggressive intentions towards Ukraine, but conditions de-escalation on a series of demands, in particular the assurance that Kiev will never join NATO.

A condition that Westerners find unacceptable.

This weekend, tensions escalated further, as many Western countries called on their nationals to leave Ukraine or began to evacuate their embassies.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected Monday in Kiev, then Tuesday in Moscow, to continue diplomatic efforts to defuse the crisis, one of the worst in Europe since the end of the Cold War.
