Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will arrive in Bahrain today, Monday, on an official visit, the first by an Israeli head of government to this Gulf country, his office announced.

Bennett's office said - in a statement - that he will meet King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad, and a number of senior officials, in addition to representatives of the Jewish community in the Kingdom.

"The two leaders will discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations, especially progress on diplomatic and economic issues, with a focus on technology and innovation," the statement added.

This will be the first visit by an Israeli prime minister to the kingdom, since the agreement to normalize relations signed by Manama and Abu Dhabi with Tel Aviv in September 2020 with American mediation.

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz, accompanied by military and security officials, visited Bahrain earlier this month in a visit that included the signing of a defense agreement between the two sides.

On the trade front, Israel said that trade exchange with Bahrain rose to $6.5 billion last year, and there are direct flights between the two sides.
