After the arrest of terror suspect Franco A. in Offenbach on Saturday evening, the former Bundeswehr officer is back in custody.

This was announced by the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court (OLG) on Monday morning.

According to a spokeswoman, the chairman of the 5th criminal division of the Higher Regional Court issued the arrest warrant on Saturday evening.

A police operation had previously taken place in the “Ledermuseum” S-Bahn station in Offenbach, during which Franco A. was temporarily arrested.

The background to this operation initially remained unclear.

The arrest warrant was finally executed on Sunday morning.

As reported, the accused is accused of preparing a serious act of violence that is dangerous to the state, violating the Weapons Act, the War Weapons Control Act, the Explosives Act, theft and fraud.

The procedure has been negotiated before the Higher Regional Court since May 20, 2021.

The accused was already in pre-trial detention from April 26, 2017 until the arrest warrant was lifted by decision of the Federal Court of Justice on November 29, 2017.

On Monday, the Higher Regional Court also shared details of the arrest on Friday evening: officials had checked the terrorist suspect in Offenbach and found that he was carrying objects "that could be considered evidence," the OLG reported further.

Apparently, there were indications of this beforehand.

"Due to this circumstance and other findings, the chairman of the state security senate has determined the existence of blackout and also the risk of flight," says the statement.

Therefore, an arrest warrant was issued.

Officers from a special task force were also deployed during the arrest on Sunday morning.

Franco A. is to be brought before the Senate on Monday morning.
