Reem bint Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of the Expo 2020 Dubai office, confirmed that she received great inspiration from people who guided her in her life during her studies, as well as in government work, noting the trust she gained from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Aviation Authority, Supreme Chairman of the Emirates Group, Chairman of the Higher Committee of Expo 2020 Dubai, assigning it to lead the Expo 2020 team from the beginning.

Al-Hashemi said, during a seminar on global leadership, organized by Emirates Airlines at the Dubai Millennium Theater, in the presence of the former CEO of PepsiCo, Indra Nawawi, yesterday: "These people have distinctive convictions."

She recounted her experience when she received a call from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to inform her of her choice to lead the "Expo 2020" team, explaining: "Actually, I did not know the beginning of what (Expo)...and when I received a call from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. Al Maktoum, to tell me that I will lead this team, I wondered about the meaning of (Expo), and I remember how I told myself that if I was going to do this work, then let us find out what it is first, and after research, I realized that we need a global campaign to compete with other advanced offers.

Al-Hashemi continued: “Among the things that worried us at the beginning, as we were planning for (Expo 2020), was the following question: What would happen if we organized just a normal event?

What would it be like if we woke up on the last day and saw that we had organized something normal?

This was a nightmare for me, and if you ask me what worries us the most, I will say that it was not that we could not launch on time, or not turn up a large number of visitors, but rather that we could not organize an event that represented a global platform for global solidarity in every sense of the word.” .

And she continued, “I think one of the most important motives for my team is our pursuit of excellence, not to seek comparison with previous versions of (Expo), but because we owe it to our families and acquaintances to organize the best event ever, we would never accept the phrase “Walk yourself”, this is a disaster. It is not about one person driving, but about a team that works hard and puts the task above all else.”

She said: “This is my job, and I have to do it and they should do a better job, and it is selfish for someone to think differently. We remember that positions come and go, and this is healthy and beneficial because you become able to accept change.”

For her part, former CEO of PepsiCo, Indra Nawawi, said: “How many women like Reem in this region have the potential to become leaders who can achieve miracles?

I remember when Reem Al Hashemi accompanied me on a tour of the Expo site in 2017, and she started explaining to me how the UAE pavilion would become in this spot, and how the United States Pavilion would be here, and in fact I was completely convinced that this would happen, because I saw a special glint in her eyes filled with confidence. ».

She added, "I think there are a lot of real gems in this region, like Reem Al-Hashemi. If they get the chance, they have tremendous potential."

Director General of the "Expo Dubai" office:

• “We would not have been satisfied with organizing a normal (Expo)... and could we not organize an event that represents a global platform for global solidarity in all the meanings of the word.”

• “When I received the commissioning call, I wondered about the meaning of (Expo), and I remember how I told myself that if I was going to do this work, let us find out what it is first.”

Indra Nooyi:

• “I think that there are a lot of real gems in this region, like Reem Al-Hashemi. If they get the chance, they have tremendous capabilities.”

It's not about one person driving, it's about a team that works hard.

"Many are like Reem"

Reem bint Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of the Expo 2020 Dubai office, revealed that she believed in her childhood that she would follow the academic path, adding during a seminar on global leadership organized by Emirates Airlines at the Dubai Millennium Theatre: This goes hand in hand with the inspiring environment at home that has helped me become who I am today.”

She called for the need to give opportunity to "many women like Reem and better."
