- I think the risk is very great that you quit prematurely if you are insecure at work and feel that you do not have support, says Caroline Mellberg who is operations manager and initiator of the new nursing services.

Helsingborg's hospital now wants to counteract this.

- We must show that we care about this professional category in order to retain them.

We see that newly graduated nurses resign after a while, it looks like they themselves are trying to broaden their skills and test where they thrive, we also know that they apply for primary care or take employment with the municipalities, says Caroline Mellberg.

Networks of colleagues must create security

In the new position, the nurses will rotate between departments every six months to try out different work steps and have the opportunity to create a network of contacts with colleagues throughout the hospital.

The regular job is combined with planned training elements similar to those that doctors receive during their general service.

In total, the hospital hopes to be able to employ eighty newly graduated nurses with this type of position over a two-year period.

As a doctor, you do not receive your ID before you have done your general service, which is an introduction to the profession and healthcare.

I find it very difficult to see why nurses would not need it, says Caroline Mellberg.
