You have to go out covered.

In Thailand, health authorities have reminded lovers who are preparing to treat themselves to a romantic and torrid night for Valentine's Day on February 14 that they should wear a mask during their antics.

"Covid is not a sexually transmitted disease, but one can catch Covid by breathing closely or exchanging saliva," said director of the Bureau of Reproductive Health Bunyarit Sukrat.

He therefore recommends that couples take an antigen test before their romantic night to avoid contamination.

Lovers are urged to avoid "face-to-face sex positions and deep kisses, and to use birth control if they want to avoid unwanted pregnancy", he added.

"If possible, wearing a mask during sex can help reduce the risk of Covid-19," Bunyarit Sukrat continued.

A popular festival in Thailand

The number of daily coronavirus infections in Thailand, which was around 8,000 at the start of the month, has almost doubled in the past two weeks.

Health authorities fear that Valentine's Day will exacerbate this trend, even if, they recognize, sexual relations are not reserved for this February 14 alone.

This holiday is popular in the kingdom, and is considered an auspicious day for couples who want to get married.

Long queues often stretch in front of the offices registering the marriages, particularly in a district of Bangkok: Bang Rak which means “district of love” in Thai.
