Agents of the National Police have arrested a 56-year-old woman in Valencia as a result of the death of her partner after, apparently,

the intake of laxative drugs

that she had allegedly provided her, a fact that kept the man admitted for seven months in a hospital until his death.

In addition, the arrested woman would have taken advantage of her sentimental partner's stay in the hospital to make

cash withdrawals from her bank account

and make purchases with her cards, as reported by the National Police in a statement.

The investigations began in May of last year, when the agents of the Homicide group learned that a 70-year-old man could have died under strange circumstances in a hospital.

The police officers found out that the man was hospitalized for seven months with a medical condition characterized by

chronic diarrhea.

The man would have been admitted to the hospital in September 2020 and, although he had only been discharged for four days, he would have remained in the center until his death in April.

The researchers have learned that when the patient was admitted to the ICU, a place where he did not receive visitors,

his state of health improved,

and that, however, it worsened when he was transferred to the ward.

During the investigations, the agents have learned that the victim was accompanied by her sentimental partner in the hospital until her death.

Apparently, the woman would have told her relatives that, due to the health situation due to

Covid-19,

the man could not receive visitors.

Despite all the medical tests carried out on the victim to clarify the reasons for his illness,

the causes were not established.

After his death, his children learned that one of the bank accounts owned by their father had a

negative balance.

In addition, they noticed the existence of various invoices for purchases made in pharmacies during the months that the man was hospitalized.

Purchase of laxatives

The investigators then began the steps to clarify the facts and found out that, for a year, the arrested woman had acquired a large quantity of laxatives and that, due to the intake of these medications for long periods of time, the man could have suffered diarrhea , which would have given rise to

alterations in cardiac function, muscle weakness and fatigue

that would have finally caused his death.

In addition, the agents have verified that during the period that the patient remained in the hospital, the suspect would have seized his bank cards to make numerous cash withdrawals at different ATMs for a value of

62,000 euros.

They have also found out that he would have made purchases in commercial establishments with the same cards for an amount that amounted to 30,000 euros.

During the investigations, the agents have discovered that the woman barely received a monthly payment of 400 euros that did not fit her current economic situation, so they have concluded that the money she had was obtained fraudulently from her partner's bank accounts sentimental.

After completing the police investigations, the police have arrested the woman for the events that have led to the death of her partner, as well as for the alleged author of the crimes of

misappropriation and fraud.
