The corresponding statement was published following the operational meeting of the Security Council, which was chaired by the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

“Prosecutor General Gizat Nurdauletov reported on the progress of the investigation into the events of the “tragic January”.

According to him, 3,024 criminal cases are currently under investigation.

The Interdepartmental Investigative Group, led by special prosecutors, is handling 177 cases of mass riots and acts of terrorism,” the report says.

According to the prosecutor's office, a total of 779 people are in custody. 

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Kazakhstan was the victim of international gangs in January.

He said this during negotiations with Tokayev in Moscow.
