• Interior After 850 days, the Government prohibits the cuts of the Meridiana with reproaches from the independence movement

The president of the Parliament,

Laura Borràs (JxCat),

made an appearance this Saturday at the Meridiana avenue court promoted by the

Meridiana Resisteix independence platform,

despite the fact that precisely as of today it is no longer authorized by the Department of the Interior.

Meridiana Resisteix and the independentist entity ANC have ignored the Government and have called to come this Saturday to cut the Meridiana, where some

400 people have gathered,

according to the Barcelona Urban Guard.

There have been some moments of tension between protesters and the police when the cut occurred, although with the passing of minutes the situation has relaxed without major incidents.

Agents from the Mossos de la Brimo, Arro and Citizen Security have closely monitored the situation, but

have not acted to dissolve the court,

which has ended as the protesters have left the place.

As of this Saturday, the concentration is authorized

in a nearby square,

which connects the Meridiana with the Paseo de Fabra i Puig, in front of the Renfe station, but not in the usual location until now, where one of the main access and exit routes from Barcelona.

The Ministry of the Interior, directed by

Joan Ignasi Elena,

from the ERC orbit, has agreed to modify the place of the concentration to make the right to demonstrate compatible with causing less inconvenience to residents and merchants in the area, according to department sources. .

The leader of Ciudadanos in Catalonia,

Carlos Carrizosa;

the deputy of the PPC

Lorena Roldán;

or the former Minister of the Interior and deputy of the PSC-Units group

Ramon Espadaler;

are some of the opposition representatives who have criticized Borràs on their social networks for participating in this demonstration.

Carrizosa has said that

"Borràs must resign:

public officials who break the law are disqualified from demanding that citizens comply with it";

Roldán has pointed out that it is "

inadmissible

for the president of the Parliament to participate in an illegal demonstration";

and Espadaler has censored

Borràs

' "sad exercise in populism" .

This morning, the Council for the Republic, a para-institutional space led from Belgium by former president

Carles Puigdemont,

also from JxCat, had already urged the Government to "rectify" its decision to put an end to these cuts.

Yesterday, Friday, the former Minister of the Presidency and Vice President of JxCat,

Jordi Turull,

attended the last authorized traffic cut on Meridiana Avenue, which brought together less than a hundred people, and Borràs did the same today, when the concentration no longer is licensed at this location.

The independence cuts on Meridiana avenue in Barcelona, which the Department of the Interior has now decided to put an end to, have taken place

since the sentence of the procés,

in October 2019.

The episode may open a

new gap within the pro

-independence coalition executive, which is shared by ERC and JxCat.

This morning, the ANC had already called a rally in front of Parliament, after Borràs organized a plenary session last week to approve an opinion in which the seat of the CUP deputy

Pau Juvillà was defended,

although only a few hours later he formalized the loss of his parliamentary status, in compliance with the order of the Central Electoral Board (JEC).
