"I used to live on the edge of West Street, and I was covered in dirt on sunny days, muddy feet on rainy days, and icy water on the street in winter." said Li Xiwen, a villager who lives on the east side of West Street, Beihengkou Village, Jingxing County, Hebei Province. The street is high in the west and low in the east. , Sometimes the muddy water mixed with rainwater and sewage is so deep that the door can't get out.

The 310-meter-long West Street in front of Li Xiwen's house is a section of the Qinhuang Ancient Road that was the "Shanxi-Hebei Link" more than 2,000 years ago.

After thousands of years, most sections of the ancient Qinhuang Road in the village have long been buried by loess, but this loess road has caused "difficulties in traveling" for the villagers.

"When the road freezes in winter, the villagers spread the ash and slag on the ice to prevent slipping, and then sprinkle a layer after the ice melts. The ground can be 'long' more than ten centimeters in winter. It is difficult for all households to hang clothes." Li Xiwen said.

"Hardening the West Street" has become the most popular livelihood issue among the villagers.

In 2021, Jingxing County will carry out the "I do practical things for the masses" practice activity. All village cadres in the county make commitments on to-do items to the villagers according to the actual situation of the village, and the Organization Department of the county party committee will pull out a list and establish a ledger.

"Hardening West Street" has also become one of the commitments made by the two committees of Beihengkou Village to the villagers.

The houses on both sides of the street are higher in the north and lower in the south. If the pavement is raised, the residents on the south side will not be able to drain the water; if the pavement is dug low, the residents on the north side will have no stairs to go out.

In addition, it involves the protection of the ancient road of the Qin Emperor, and the hardening difficulty can be imagined.

"Since the promise is made, it can be difficult." Zhang Wuting, the secretary of the village branch, communicated with the cultural relics department first and determined the hardening plan; members of the two village committees Baohu communicated with the villagers. Since nearly half of the villagers on both sides of the street are no longer in the village If they live there, village cadres will go to their current residence to do their work, and they will go as far as Yangquan, Shanxi and other places.

In the end, the villagers were moved by the sincerity of the village cadres and were also satisfied with the renovation plan.

At the end of May last year, the renovation of the 310-meter sewage pipe network in West Street and the hardening of the road surface were completed, and the villagers said goodbye to the travel problem.

Today, when walking on West Street, the flat cement surface is clean and tidy, the houses on both sides are scattered, and there are elderly people on the roadside basking in the sun in front of their homes.

Li Xiwen said: "The road is good, and the villagers' hearts are also bright."

The house of Liang Aiying, a villager in Beihengkou Village, is clean and bright, and the indoor flower stand is full of spring.

"The children went home for the New Year and walked on the newly built concrete road. They used to feel that they could not reach the end of the road for a long time, but now they have come to the end in a blink of an eye."

On the eve of the Spring Festival, Jingxing County held an annual meeting on party building work with the theme of "A year later, has the secretary's promise been fulfilled?"

Hu Wenru, member of the Standing Committee of the County Party Committee and Minister of Organization, said that in 2021, 321 villages in the county will establish a total of 1,008 "practical things for the people" ledger, ranging from installing water dispensers for villagers and replacing smart water meters for villagers, to river management, road construction and park construction. etc., covering all aspects of rural party building, living environment improvement, collective economic development, etc. After sorting out, these commitments have been fully fulfilled by the end of the year.

Liu Lixiang, secretary of the Jingxing County Party Committee, introduced that in 2022, the county will establish 1,437 ledgers that promise to "do practical things for the people".

"The plan of the year lies in the spring. We have already sounded the charge of starting a business in the new year. We will run through the main line of Party building and rural revitalization, adhere to 'list-based management, project-based promotion, and supervision-based implementation', and strive to achieve the goal by the end of the year. The people handed in a satisfactory answer."
