Is France going too fast?

With an improving health situation, the government decided to lift measures from February 15, and its spokesperson Gabriel Attal affirmed that wearing a mask indoors, in closed places subject to the vaccination pass, does not will be more mandatory.

"What is surprising is that this measure is not based on indicators", wonders about Europe 1 Benjamin Davido, infectious disease specialist at the Raymond-Poincaré hospital in Garches, in the Hauts-de-Seine.

Measures taken “a little hastily”

“As a scientist, I would have liked solid indicators to judge why this date, and to condition it on these indicators”, continues the infectiologist, doubtful.

Sanitary relief also concerns schools, with the end of wearing a mask in the playground as soon as the winter holidays return depending on the zone, and the request for a single self-test instead of three for a return to class. in case of contamination.

“Measures, which are taken a little hastily, should not mean that the wave and the epidemic are behind us. Since this is not the case”, estimates Benjamin Davido.

“The hospital still has patients”, continues the infectious disease specialist on Europe 1. “We should perhaps wait for the hospital beds to become free to be able to consider that the game is played in advance”, adds Benjamin Davido, while some university hospitals, such as those in Bordeaux or Valenciennes, are struggling to find beds.

Herd immunity expected by the end of March

The infectious disease specialist from Raymond-Poincaré hospital affirms "that a few weeks, or even less, one could have imagined that all of these measures, everywhere in reality, could be lifted, seasonality helping."

And Benjamin Davido to hope for “collective immunity”: “At the end of March, we should be in the conditions to reach this famous collective immunity which, until then, since the start of the epidemic, seemed to be an oasis.
